Introduction
Burton Contractors is a prominent civil engineering firm based in New South Wales. With nearly 200 employees and a fleet exceeding 100 machines, the business is grounded in strong family values and deep industry knowledge. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the region’s fastest-expanding contractors. Under the leadership of Managing Director Paul Burton, the company continues to help shape thriving residential developments across NSW, with a reputation for quality and reliability.
The Challenge
Burton Contractors faced ongoing issues with their existing attachments during large-scale excavation projects in tough terrain. The attachments were wearing out quickly and required frequent maintenance. Paul Burton, the Managing Director, was keen to improve site efficiency and explore the potential to shift greater volumes of material in less time.
The SBA Approach and Solution
When Burton Contractors approached SBA for a potential new vision, we developed a Custom Australian-Made Direct Pin Heavy Duty GP Bucket tailored to fit the Liebherr R966, along with an added 14t counterweight. Specifically built for large-scale excavation in challenging, rocky conditions, this bucket was deployed on a major civil works project. Equipped with a semi-spade nose for better ground penetration and an extensive wear package—including wear strips, hanger gussets, chocky blocks, outer lamination, and wing shrouds—the bucket was engineered for durability and longevity.
SBA closely work in collaboration with Westrac Caterpillar, ensuring compatibility with the client’s preferred G.E.T system, the CA170 Advansys. The single spike teeth offer superior penetration in hard ground and simplify the removal of embedded rocks.
The Results
The final design features a larger profile and 5.5m³ capacity, optimising the machine’s efficiency by reducing load-out times and minimising the number of passes—while also factoring in fuel economy. This bucket has now been in action for almost a year on their site & Burton Construction has seen a significant reduction in maintenance requirements considerably reduced their downtime.
This is the SBA Advantage. With three factories across Australia and a team of experienced engineers, we specialise in custom-building solutions that match your operational needs. By collaborating with industry leaders, we deliver purpose-built products that perform. Proudly Australian-made, this Heavy Duty Bucket is delivering exactly what Burton Contractors needed.
For a contractor like Rick Davis Contracting, juggling multiple specialised attachments can create unnecessary complexity, which is why they needed the perfect piece of equipment for their demolition needs.
Reality Escapes Landscaping has lifted output across every project since upgrading to Komatsu machines fitted with SBA attachments. The PC18 and PC35 now handle tight-access digs, backyard cuts, pool work, and detailed earthworks with speed and accuracy.
